Job Description
The Vessel Boarding Agent is responsible for attending vessels during port calls and ensuring the smooth execution of all operational and administrative requirements. Acting as the key liaison between the vessel, port authorities, and service providers, the role involves boarding ships, coordinating port services, and ensuring timely turnaround in line with operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Board vessels upon arrival and remain the main point of contact throughout the port stay
• Coordinate with Port Authorities, Customs, Immigration, and Port Health for vessel clearance
• Arrange and oversee port services including pilotage, towage, berthing, bunkering, and shipchandling
• Facilitate crew changes, medical assistance, and other crew-related matters
• Prepare and process all port call documentation (arrival, departure, statements of facts, etc.)
• Ensure timely submission of pre-arrival and departure information to relevant authorities
• Monitor vessel operations and provide regular updates to ship owners, charterers, and principals
• Coordinate with suppliers and contractors to ensure services are delivered efficiently
• Track port disbursements and maintain accurate operational records
• Ensure compliance with maritime regulations, safety standards, and company procedures
Requirements
• Previous experience in shipping, port operations, or maritime services is preferred
• Strong understanding of port procedures and maritime regulations
• Willingness and physical ability to board vessels at anchorage or alongside berth, including transfers via launch boats
• Comfortable working onboard ships and in port environments under varying weather and operational conditions
• Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays (based on vessel schedules)
• Valid driving licence (own vehicle is an advantage)
• Good communication and coordination skills
• Proficiency in English and French (written and spoken)
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
