Job Description

Vacancy for the post of Trainee Diabetes Educator 

T1 Diams, the NGO providing multidisciplinary support to people living with Type 1 diabetes in Mauritius and Rodrigues Island is looking for a dynamic Trainee Diabetes Educator on a full-time basis. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

On a daily basis, to provide assistance over the phone, face to face or via e-communication systems to potential and current members, their families and the general public in matters concerning Type 1 diabetes or T1 Diams objectives, services and projects; 

To provide first level of psychological support to members and their families and to identify and stimulate further sources of support through peers and family sharing of experience; 

To schedule, confirm and monitor appointments for members requiring consultations with medical professionals (diabetologist, nutritionists/dieticians, clinical psychologists and optometrists, etc.) internal and external to T1 Diams; 

To educate on insulin therapy with adaptation of doses, rotation of injection sites and use of Glucagon; 

To help create awareness on type 1 diabetes by delivering presentations and by representing T1 Diams on public awareness events; 

Set up and maintain paper and electronic filing systems for records, correspondence, and other material in the medical domain; 

Accompany members and their families to their medical consultations in order to provide feedback to doctors and to ensure that patients understand and apply their doctor’s recommendations; 

Participate actively in all activities organized by the NGO.
Profile of ideal candidate:

Fluent in Creole, French and English  

Willing to work during weekends and after office hours   

Ability to work in teams 

Understanding of NGO dynamics 

Qualifications: 

Degree in any science subject, Nutrition or a diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution with at least 2 years of experience in a similar post.  

Knowledge and experience in Type 1 Diabetes will be an advantage.  

Knowledge of computer tools such as Email, Microsoft Word and Excel.
